Comfort Care & Hospice Care
- Description:
Comfort Care: Comfort care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. This type of care is designed to improve the quality of life for patients by addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. It is appropriate at any stage of illness and can be provided alongside curative treatment. Key elements include pain management, assistance with daily activities, emotional support, and coordination of care services.
Hospice Care: Hospice care is a specific type of comfort care for individuals who are nearing the end of life, typically with a prognosis of six months or less if the illness runs its natural course. The primary goal of hospice care is to ensure comfort and dignity during the final phase of life, focusing entirely on quality of life rather than curative treatments. It includes comprehensive medical, emotional, and spiritual support for both the patient and their family, with services such as pain and symptom management, counseling, and respite care for caregivers.
