Understanding the Differences: Home Care Services vs. Safeguard Visits

For a better Peace Of Mind

At Renew Home Care, we offer a variety of in-home care services tailored to meet the unique needs of our clients. It’s important to understand the differences between our comprehensive home care services and our specialized Safeguard Visits to choose the right level of care for your loved one.

Home Care Services

Our home care services are designed to provide ongoing support and assistance to clients in their own homes. These services are tailored to the individual’s needs and can include:

  1. Companion Care

    • Description: Provides emotional support and companionship, helping clients stay socially engaged and mentally stimulated. Activities include conversation, reading, playing games, and accompanying clients on walks or outings.
    • Ideal For: Clients who are largely independent but benefit from social interaction and light assistance with daily activities.
  2. Personal Care

    • Description: Assists with daily personal activities to maintain hygiene and well-being. This includes help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility assistance.
    • Ideal For: Clients who need help with personal hygiene and daily routines but do not require medical care.
  3. Specialized Care

    • Description: Provides tailored care for clients with specific health conditions such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, or other chronic illnesses, as well as post-operative care.
    • Ideal For: Clients who need specialized attention and care plans tailored to their unique medical or health-related conditions.
  4. Comfort Care & Hospice Care

    • Description:

Comfort Care: Comfort care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. This type of care is designed to improve the quality of life for patients by addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. It is appropriate at any stage of illness and can be provided alongside curative treatment. Key elements include pain management, assistance with daily activities, emotional support, and coordination of care services.

Hospice Care: Hospice care is a specific type of comfort care for individuals who are nearing the end of life, typically with a prognosis of six months or less if the illness runs its natural course. The primary goal of hospice care is to ensure comfort and dignity during the final phase of life, focusing entirely on quality of life rather than curative treatments. It includes comprehensive medical, emotional, and spiritual support for both the patient and their family, with services such as pain and symptom management, counseling, and respite care for caregivers.

  5. Skilled Care

    • Description: Delivered by qualified healthcare professionals, including nurses and therapists, providing medical care and assistance such as wound care, medication management, and rehabilitation services.

Key Differences between Home Care Services &
Safeguard Visits

  • Duration: Home care services generally involve longer shifts (4hr, 8hr, 12hr, or 24hr) to provide continuous support, whereas Safeguard Visits are shorter (2hrs) and focused on quick check-ins.
  • Level of Care: Home care services offer comprehensive and continuous care tailored to various needs (social, personal, or specialized health care), while Safeguard Visits are brief and primarily aimed at ensuring safety and addressing immediate needs.
  • Focus: Home care services focus on overall well-being, daily living assistance, and specific health care needs, while Safeguard Visits prioritize safety checks and quick assessments.

By understanding these differences, you can select the appropriate service that best suits the needs of your loved one, ensuring they receive the right level of care and support.
